Sarah Esther Williams

                                                                Wisdom, Discipline, Courage

I was born....

.... on October 31st, 19 [cough COUGH sniff]. Yes, I was born on Halloween but believe it or not, I never knew it until I was about 12 years old. In Georgetown, Guyana, where I grew up, we never celebrated Halloween (at least not seriously). About a week after my birth, I was named Sarah Esther, both Hebrew names meaning "Princess Star"

I attend St Jude's Play Group, Happy Hearts Nursery School, F.E. Pollard Primary School, Mae's Under 12 Primary School, and Queen's College  before moving to the Bahamas where I attended St Andrew's International School.

In 2002, I obtained a full tuition scholarship to attend the University of Southern California and after a wonderful 4 year stint, I graduated magna cum laude in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, with minor in French.

Today I attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, one of the best schools in the nation at instruction and research in Human Computer Interaction and related fields. My interests lie in information visualization, website usability, social networking, powerful web APIs, online web developer communities and more recently, persuasive technology.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy fixing very very large jigsaw puzzles (3000+) pieces. My ultimate goal is to fix one of the world's largest ones ( 18,000 pieces).

I am pursuing a Masters Degree in HCI and am expected to graduate in May 2008.

While at Tech, I've helped Coordinate the Women@CC Mentorship Program during the 2006-2007 school year, attended the Grace Hopper 2006 and CRA-W workshop in early 2007. This year, my friends Michelle Kwasny, Anandi Pendse, Puja Verma and I are helping to organise a seminar for our fellow HCI students focusing on HCI learning outside the classroom.
